Our History

Minnesota Community Care was founded in 1972 as West Side Community Health Services. Our original name reflects our roots. We have been serving the residents of Saint Paul, particularly those on the West Side, for over fifty years. Since our humble beginnings, we have grown to be the largest community health care organization in Minnesota. Our new name reflects our current service to the community and  our promise for the future  – to provide high-quality, affordable health care for all.

Few organizations have the privilege of serving so many sectors of the population. At MCC, we believe in providing the most sensitive and effective care while achieving the ultimate goal – improving the health of our region for the benefit of all. We strive to ensure access to high-quality healthcare services for all, engaging patients in their care while providing culturally sensitive and tailored care with respect for their traditions.

At Minnesota Community Care we provide care to over 37,000 patients in our 19 clinical locations but we couldn’t do all this without YOU! We are thrilled to introduce our new historical timeline video.  It celebrates our major milestones from 1968 to 2022:

We Strive to Improve the Health of Our Region for the Benefit of All.

We are pioneers.

Since our founding fifty years ago, we have been a visionary organization that emphasizes patient education and collaboration, prevention, and integrated services. Our care model uses our multilingual/multicultural expertise to provide accessible health care to our diverse communities.

We are healers.

We put people first, providing high-quality patient-centered care that reflects best practices, and respects the cultures of the patients we serve. We educate patients and family members and involve them in their own health care. We care for all people who come to us with deep compassion and respect, no matter their circumstances.

We are advocates.

We are sought out as the community voice for Latino, Hmong, adolescent, and health care issues. We understand public health issues and partner with other organizations to address community needs. We advocate for public policy that helps people gain access to affordable health care and other needed services.

We are neighbors.

We provide comprehensive healthcare services where our multilingual/multicultural expertise is most needed-in urban neighborhoods, schools, public housing campuses, and homeless shelters. We serve as a community cornerstone in providing services, employing local residents, and contributing to community vitality.

We speak your language.

We all feel more comfortable when we’re interacting with people who understand our language and culture. Our clinics are filled with dedicated professionals who speak Spanish, English, and Hmong. They work closely with patients of all ages and will put you at ease and keep you informed.

We’re here when you need us.

We continue growing our footprint to provide you with everything you need to get and stay well, in your neighborhood. We’re open longer hours on evenings and weekends to make it easier for you to receive services. Our staff is deeply committed to giving you and your family the best care.

We help you stay healthy.

At our clinics, we’ll help you be healthy in every way we can. We can give you the information and support you need to make smart choices and take better care of yourself. We can help you lose weight, stop smoking, manage diabetes, have a healthy pregnancy, and more.
